The Rescuers is a 1977 American animated adventure comedy-drama film produced by Walt Disney Productions inspired by the books by Margery Sharp. The film is about an international mouse organization dedicated to helping abduction victims which sends out two mice to assist with an abducted orphan child. originally released in theatres on June 22, 1977 after a premiere in Washington, D.C.. It was originally released as a double feature with A Tale of Two Critters. A rerelease on December 16, 1983, saw it accompanied with Mickey's Christmas Carol. A final theatrical run occurred in 1989 in preparation for it's sequel film.

The film saw home media releases on VHS in 1992 and 1999, and Laserdisc in 1992. A DVD released in 2003 and discontinued in 2011. In 2012, A 35th-anniversary edition Blu-ray was put out alongside its sequel.

The VHS release in January 1999 saw a recall due to an image of a nude woman being seen in a window for a few frames. The content had existed since the original theatrical runs of the movie but could not be viewed during theatrical viewings as to view it would have necessitated the use of pausing and viewing frame by frame. This content was not in the 1992 releases as that release was made from a different print.[2][3] After the recall, the film was reissued in March that year.
