Thomas & Friends: The Great Discovery is a 2008 direct-to-DVD feature-length special for Thomas & Friends. It was filmed and produced in 2007, and was released in 2008 for US cinemas in July, and later for DVD for the US in September, and was then released for UK cinemas in late September, and later for DVD in October. It is the third Thomas film in the series and the final film to use models and figurines at Shepperton Studios, as well as the final one being made completely in live-action.
As the Engines prepare for the Sodor Day celebration, Thomas gets lost in the mountains. When he returns with news that he’s discovered an old town called Great Waterton, everyone pitches in to help get the little village ready for the big day.

American English version (partial redub)[]
The American English version was a slightly modified version of the original British English version. While the script and narrator remain the same, terms such as "trucks," "The Fat Controller" and "The Thin Controller" get swapped out for "freight cars," "Sir Topham Hatt" and "Mr. Percival" respectively. This version aired on TV in the US on PBS and was released on DVD in the US on September 5, 2008.
