Voici venir les Barbapapa (in English: Here come the Barbapapas), also known as La famille des Barbapapa (in English: The Barbapapa family) is the intro to the 1974 TV series Barbapapa. It is featured at the start of all 100 episodes. It was mainly performed by Ricet Barrier (who was also the narrator of the series), composed by Joop Stokkermans, and was written by Harrie Geelen.

The intro introduces all of the Barbapapa family, their ability to shapeshift, and describes them all by their color in the extended version.

The credits are a short, 10 second instrumental reprise of this intro.

Lead singer: Ricet Barrier

Voici venir les Barbapapa !
On fait les fous !
Dans la famille des Barbapapa
Viens avec nous chez Barbapapa
Ils se transforment à volonté

Here come the Barbapapas!
We go crazy!
In the Barbapapa family
Come with us to Barbapapa's house
They're transforming at will
Short, long, squares
Thin, big, or round

Come with us to Barbapapa's house!
There is Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbabeau,
Come with us to Barbapapa's house!
Barbabelle and Barbabravo, Barbalib, and Barbabright, and Barbalala!
Come with us to Barbapapa's house!

Albanian[]

The opening used in the Albanian dub is of the first Italian theme, but subtitled in Albanian.

Like the English Centauro version, Barbalib is accidentally left out of the roll call (but there is no repeating of anyone else's names).

Ja ku po vijnë Mjekëroshët!
Mjekëroshët!
Në familjen e Mjekëroshëve!
Eja me ne tek Mjekëroshët.
Ti i shikon të shëndërrohen,
sa herë që duan!
Sa herë që duan!

Eja me ne tek Mjekëroshët!
Janë Babi-Mjekër, Mami-Mjekër, Mjekër-Forti, Mjekër-Gjeniu...
...Mjekër-Bukura, Mjekër-Mjekri, Mjekër-Zoi, Mjekër-Lala...

Here come the Bearded People!
Bearded People!
In the Beard family!
Come with us chez Bearded People.
You look at them transforming,
whenever they want!
Whenever they want!

They are Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbabravo, Barbabright...
...Barbabelle, Barbabeau, Barbazoo, Barbalala...

English (UK)[]

Singers: Ed Stewart, Cathy MacDonald, and The London Boy Singers

Introducing The Barbapapa Family is the intro used in the British English and Canadian English dubs. It was released on an album in 1975, simply titled "Barbapapa".

Here is the star, it's Barbapapa!
He'll introduuuce...
All of the other Barbapapas
'Cause they've got a lot of wild disguises!
They can change their shapes and sizes
very easily...

Show me your magic Barbapapa!
Well there's Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbalala, Barbalib and Barbabeau, Barbabelle, Barbabright, and Barbabravo!
I want to be like Barbapapa
Did you miss that? Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbalala, Barbalib, Barbabeau, Barbabelle, Barbabright, Barbabravo!
I want to be like Barbapapa!
Again? Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbalala, Barbalib, Barbabeau...*

*This line is cut when aired on TV, however it was said in the album version.

English (US, Magno)[]

Singers: ?

This intro is used in the Magno-produced American English dub. It uses similar lyrics to the UK version, however it features no roll call for the Barbapapa family. It also uses a remixed version of the intro.

Here is the star, it's Barbapapa!
He'll introduuuce...
All of the other Barbapapas
They've got a lot of wild disguises!
They can change their shapes and sizes
very easily...

Here is the star, it's Barbapapa!
Barbapapa!

English (1990)[]

Singers: ?

While the opening theme is dubbed on the South African releases of the dub, in the Japanese release of the dub the song is left instrumental. This dub features no roll call for the Barbapapa family.

Barbapapas are kind and gentle
(And change their shape!)
Barbapapas are sentimental
And they will always try to help you
Even if you don't deserve it
They are so nice!

And they can fly(?), so don't desert them
Just don't you lie or try to hurt them
And they'll become the best ever friends!

English (US, Centauro)[]

Singers: Kais Kappler and unidentified male voice

This intro is used in the Centauro-produced American English dub. It uses similar lyrics to the UK version, however it features a proper roll call that's accurate to the original.

Here is the star, it's Barbapapa!
He'll introduuuce...
All of the other Barbapapas
They've got a lot of wild disguises!
They can change their shapes and sizes
very easily...

Show me your magic Barbapapa!
Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbabelle,
I wanna be like Barbapapa
Barbabeau, Barbabright, Barbabelle*, Barbabravo, Barbalala!
I wanna be like Barbapapa!

*The roll caller says Barbabelle's name twice by accident. The official subtitles for the dub reveal that they were supposed to say Barbalib's name at the second mention.

Icelandic (1989)[]

Singers: Jóhann Sigurðarson and Edda Heiðrún Backman

This dub features two opening themes: both of the themes have the same lyrics and singers, but in the second version, the singers harmonize with each other, instead of singing few lines separately. Both versions abandon the roll call.

At least one episode in S2 aired with an instrumental theme.[3]

Italian[]

V1[]

Singers: Roberto Vecchioni and Mele Verdi

This version is the main Italian theme of Barbapapa, and also the most recognizable. It was used in both the 1973-produced film Le avventure di Barbapapà, and the first season of the 1976 Italian dub of the series. Titled "La famiglia di Barbapapà", the song was released on an album of the same name in 1977.

In the 2006 Italian dub of the series, this version was re-used for both seasons.

Ecco arrivare i Barbapapà,
Barbapapà!
Nella famiglia Barbapapà,
vieni con noi dai Barbapapà!
Tu li vedi trasformare,
Come gli va!
Come gli va...

Vieni con noi dai Barbapapà!
Ci sono Barbapapà, Barbamammà, Barbidou, Barbouille,
Vieni con noi dai Barbapapà!
Barbabella, Barbadura, Barbottina, Barbibul, Barbalalla...
Vieni con noi!
Dai Barbapapà!

Here come the Barbapapas,
Barbapapa!
In the Barbapapa family,
come with us to Barbapapa's!
You can see them transform,
Just like that!
Just like that...

Come with us to Barbapapa's!
There are Barbapapa, Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbabeau,
Come with us to Barbapapa's!
Barbabelle, Barbabravo, Barbalib, Barbabright, Barbalala...
Come with us!
To Barbapapa's!

V2[]

Singers: Orietta Berti and Claudio Lippi

This version was used as the opening theme in the second season of the 1976 Italian dub of the series. Titled "Ecco arrivare i Barbapapà", it was released on an album of the same name in 1975.

Ecco arrivare i Barbapapà,
Barbapapà!
Nella famiglia Barbapapà,
vieni con noi dai Barbapapà!
E si sanno trasformare,
Come gli va!

バーバファミリーのうた (Romaji: Barbafamily no uta; English: Song of the Barbafamily) is the intro to the TV Tokyo Japanese dub of the series. It was composed by Chuuji Kinoshita / 木下忠司, with lyrics by Zenzo Matsuyama / 松山善三. The full song was used as the intro without any cuts.

This version is a completely different song arrangement, using a random selection of clips from the series as footage. This is also the only version to give the show a different opening entirely.

Voici venir les Barbapapa
Toujours contents
Papa et Maman Barbapapa
et leurs enfants
Les p'tits et les grands
Se transforment à volonté
Ronds ou carrés ...

Barbapapa est tout rose, rose
Plus rose qu'une rose rose
Barbamama est plus noire
Plus noire qu'une rose noire
Barbibul est jaune, jaune
Barbalala verte comme une pomme
Barbotine, cet ange

Here come the Barbapapas
Always happy
Papa and Mama Barbapapa
and their children
Young and old
Transform at will
Round or square...

Barbapapa is all pink, pink
Pinker than a pink rose
Barbamama is blacker
Blacker than a black rose
Barbabright is yellow, yellow
Barbalala's green like an apple
Barbalib, this angel
The color of oranges
Barbabeau is black as a crow
and every time he picks up his brushes
He covers himself with stains from the bottom up
Barbabelle is purple
Barbazoo is all blue
Barbabravo is an athlete as red as fire
And all of the world is happy!

Here come the Barbapapas!
We go crazy!
In the Barbapapa family
Come with us to Barbapapa's house

Lead singer: Leen Jongewaard
Choir: Het Televisiekinderkoor

Haal op het doek voor Barbapapa!
De tijd is zoek!
Bij de familie Barbapapa
Kom op bezoek bij Barbapapa
Kunnen wat ze willen worden
Dun, dik of rond,
Kort, vierkant, lang

Barbapapa zelf is roze
Reuze, roze heel apart
Hij heeft mama uitgekozen
Barbamama is zwart
Barbabee is zo geel als boter
Barbalala groen zo groen als gras
Barbabientje die kan je kleuren
Met de kleur oranje
En dacht je dat Barbabob zwart was
Spikkeltjes rood, groen en wit
Omdat die zo onder de verf zit
Pimpelpaars is Barbabella
Barbabenno ogenblauw, blauw
Vlaggetjesrood is Barbaborre
Rooier kan je haast niet worden
Ze komen op bezoek bij jou!

Kom op bezoek bij Barbapapa
Het hele gezin
Bij de familie Barbapapa
Mag ik naar binnen Barbapapa
Kunnen wat ze willen worden

Title: The Barbapapa Family[6]
Singers: Ed Stewart, Cathy MacDonald, and The London Boy Singers

Here is the star, it's Barbapapa!
He'll introduuuce...
All of the other Barbapapas
They've got a lot of wild disguises!
They can change their shapes and sizes
very easily...

Barbapapa's pink, he's in the pink
He's pinker than flamingo pink
Barbamama's black as night
When it gets dark, she's out of sight
Barbazoo's a yellow fellow
Barbalala's very very green
Barbalib is orange like an orange or a tangerine
Barbabeau is black and furry
But since he always plays around with paint
He often looks a colour that he ain't!
Now Barbabelle is deep deep purple
Barbabright's true true blue
Barbabravo, he's the one
who's redder than the setting sun
That I think is everybody done!

I wanna be like Barbapapa
Oh yes, I do!
I wanna be a Barbapapa
They've got a lot of wild disguises
They can change their shapes and sizes
very easily...

Show me your magic Barbapapa!
Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbalala, ayyy turn it up, turn the record over! Back to track one! You can hear all the names again then, okay?
I wanna be like Barbapapa
I wanna be like Barbapapa!

English (US)[]

Singers: Kais Kappler and unidentified male voice

30 seconds of an extended version of the opening that was used in the English Centauro dub was made available to the Barbapapa YouTube channel.[7] Besides this, it would not be made available in full until 2020, with the launch of the Barbapapa Club app.

The lyrics of this version are the same as the British English version, with the exception that the narrator's last line omits the mention of a record.

Barbabravo is red like a cloth
It doesn't get any redder
We come to visit today!

Hér koma börn mín Barbapapar,

Bæði Barbamamma og Barbapabbi,
og börnin með þeim, stór og smá
Hvað þau breyta lögun sinni
senn má sjá

[...]

Hér koma börn mín, Barbapabar
og brosa þá
Fjölskylda blessaðs Barbapabba,
brosmild er hún og glöð að sjá
Og þau breytt sér geta að vilja
Horfum þau á

Þið komið börn til Barbapabba
Þau eru: Barbapabbi, Barbamamma, Barbavænn og Barbasnjall
Þið komið börn til Barbapabba

and then they'll smile
Both Barbamama and Barbapapa,

When they change shape
It must be seen

The blessed Barbapapa family,
they're smiling and happy to see us!
And they can change at will
Let's look at them!

Esta é a família Barbapapa
– vamos contar –

A lilás é Barbabela.
Barbaclic é muito azul.
Barbaploc é valentão,
vermelho como camarão,
e todos os Barbas aqui estão!

Eu quero ser um Barbapapa
– quero brincar –
ser da família Barbapapa,
poder mudar de forma e jeito,
muito barba-satisfeito
por me transformar.

Me ensina o jeito Barbapapa
– quero brincar –
que eu quero ser um Barbapapa.
Eu quero ser um Barbapapa!

This is the Barbapapa family,
– let's count –
and each one of the Barbapapas
can change shape and form!
Very Barba-satisfied,
to transform!

Barbapapa's pink, in the pink
and more pink than a rose
Barbamama's like some coal
A black color of darkness
Barbazoo is yellow
Barbalala is a natural green
Barbalib is orange
Like an orange, an orange grove
Barbabeau is hairy
He is black and he loves being a painter...
Sometimes there are spots of another color
Barbabelle is lilac
Barbabright is very blue
Barbabravo is tough
Red like a shrimp
And all of the Barbas are here!

I want to be a Barbapapa
I want to play!
Being from the Barbapapa family
To be able to change shape and form!
Very Barba-satisfied,
to transform!

In my way, Barbapapa
I want to play
And I want to be a Barbapapa!
I want to be a Barbapapa!

Singers: Los Chiquitines

La familia Barbapapa (in English: The Barbapapa family) is a cover with new lyrics by the Spanish band Los Chiquitines. It was released in the album "Un Globo, Dos Globos, Tres Globos (50 Canciones del Sábado Tarde)" on October 23, 2002.[8] 30 seconds of this intro was posted to the official Barbapapa YouTube account on January 25, 2016.[9]

Barbabella, Barbidur, Barbotine y Barbazoo, ¡Barbalala!
¡Son la familia Barbapapa!

Today I really feel happy
to introduce... the Barbapapa family!
They are the characters that now live
And who only seek to find our friendship

Barbapapa is pink
and more pink than a rose
Barbamama is so black,
like the black coal
Barbazoo is chocolate
Barbalala is green like a melon
Barbalib is flame
almost more than a pomegranate.
Barbabeau is black, very black
But he always says "no",
{He says that} it's just his fur coat
Barbabelle is purple
Barbabright is blue
Barbabravo is an athlete
I would say, a champion!
When he plays-plays his drums!

Today I really feel happy
to introduce... the Barbapapa family!
They are the characters that now live
And who only seek to find our friendship

I tell you:
They are the Barbapapa family
Here are Barbapapa and Barbamama, Barbazoo, Barbabeau,
They are the Barbapapa family
Barbabelle, Barbabravo, Barbalib and Barbabright, Barbalala!
They are the Barbapapa family!

Missing versions[]

  • There are a few versions of this song that, if dubbed, have not surfaced anywhere online. They cannot be added anywhere on this page until either the audio and/or the lyrics are provided:
  • In the Persian IRIB dub, the opening uses an instrumental theme (the one with additional instruments) and immediately cuts to the end part, with a voice-over.

Notes[]

  • The lyrics to the extended intro accidently confuse Barbazoo for Barbabright, and switches their names around (therefore calling Barbazoo blue, and Barbabright yellow). This is fixed in all international versions of the intro.

The instrumental theme with extra instruments.

  • Two instrumental versions of this intro exists: The normal one is heard in most of the versions, while there is an instrumental version that adds additional instruments that go to the tune of the lyrics. Among the versions that use the latter instrumental are the 1990 English dub (as well its Japanese release, in which the entire theme song is instrumental), the 2001 Japanese version, the Korean version, the TVE European Spanish version, the Icelandic 1989 versions, the second Norwegian version, and the Persian IRIB version (albeit shortened to the very end of the intro).
    • However, there have been other instrumentals of the song that exist, all of which stick to the same tune of the song with slight differences (excluding the first Japanese dub which uses a different song entirely). Among those are the Hungarian version, the first Italian version (which was also used in the Icelandic 1980 version), the Brazilian Portuguese intro that doesn't feature a roll call (and also uses additional instruments), and Magno's American English version.
