The Walt Disney Studios (WDS, also known as Buena Vista Sound Studios and Buena Vista Sound Services) is the filmed entertainment division of the entertainment business segment of The Walt Disney Company. The division is responsible for the production and distribution of films under the Disney Live-Action, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, Ltd., Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures units. WDS is the seventh-oldest global studio, the fifth-oldest in the United States, a member of the Motion Picture Association, and part of the "Big Five" major film studios.

History[]

The studio was first involved with dubbing during the production of Walt Disney's first animated motion picture, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. WDS was responsible for dubbing the film into Spanish and French respectively. Following that, WDS was used to dub Disney's films into other languages such as Portuguese as a replacement for local dubbing studios due to budgetary or unknown reasons. While recording studios began recording Disney dubs into their respective countries and languages once again, WDS still remains active as of today. In 1983, the live-action section of Walt Disney Productions, became Walt Disney Pictures. This division was later integrated into the Buena Vista Motion Picture Group in 1998, which is the present-day incarnation of WDS. Buena Vista Sound Studios/Services was responsible for dubbing the Studio Ghibli library into English from 2002-2009.
