Winx Club (also known as Γουίνξ κλαμπ) is the Greek dub of the show of the same name. Premiering on November 7, 2004, at 09.00 EET,[1] it primarily aired in Greece on Alter for seasons 1-4. However, due to the acquisition of the Winx Club franchise by Viacom in 2010, alongside Alter becoming defunct in 2012, it then moved to Nickelodeon from January 2013 onwards, where seasons 5-7 aired, alongside the dub of the spin-off World of Winx. The four one-hour specials were not dubbed, and like most international dubs, season 8 was never dubbed either.

The DVD release of season 5 features the first six episodes being slightly different dub than broadcasts on Nickelodeon, with the most notable difference being Aisha called by her original name, instead of Layla which is usually used in the Greek dub.

Notes[]

  • Like most international dubs, Aisha is renamed to Layla for unspecified reasons.
    • However, in the slight re-dub of season 5 for DVD releases, she is named Aisha again in the first six episodes of the season, and then changed back to Layla as is traditionally used in the Greek dub.
  • Helia's name in seasons 2-4 is pronounced "Elia", just like the Italian version.
  • In season 3, Miele's name is pronounced "mee-el" due to the fact that the name is difficult to pronounce it.
  • Recaps and previews are cut out in DVD releases of this dub.
  • The majority of songs are left in English or as instrumental in seasons 1-3. In season 4, almost all the songs are dubbed into Greek. In seasons 5-7, all songs are left in English or as instrumental again.
    • Throughout seasons 1-3, the only songs that were dubbed were "Under the Sign of Winx" and the songs from the narrative portion of season 2 episode 15 (i.e. "You Are", "A Song for You", and "A Sky Without Moon and Stars", but not the ending theme song). Additionally, the ending credits songs "The Girls of the Winx Club" from seasons 1-2 and "If You're a Winx" from season 3 were replaced with the theme song of these seasons, "Under the Sign of Winx", in the ending credits; it has a fade out as the song lasts longer than the credits.
    • The only song from season 4 that was not dubbed was the ending credits song "Superheroes", as it was again replaced with the theme song of the season; in this case, "Winx Are Back."
    • The only songs in seasons 5-7 to be dubbed are minor songs such as the Christmas Cheer from episode 510 and "You're Fairies" from season 7.
  • Unlike other Greek dubs released by Alter, no localized texts were added to the openings, nor to the title cards. However, some alterations were still made to the footage:
    • In the opening theme song, the scene of Bloom opening her eye is replaced with the Winx Club logo, and the Winx Club logo briefly appears superimposed over the start of the ending credits before the credits appear.
    • This dub uses footage of the season 1 opening and ending credits in seasons 1-4. In season 4, the footage is shortened for the opening theme and sped up in the ending credits to fit the length of "Winx Are Back".
  • This was the first dub to release seasons 4 and 7, with season 7 premiering four months before it did in Italy and the United States.
    • Cinélume's English dub of Season 4 had already been released to dubbing studios to use as a base, evidenced by this dub having used it as a base, but at the time of the Greek dub's release, the season had not been publicly released anywhere outside of Italy.
  • This dub had a very small number of voice actors participating in it, with the cast for seasons 1-4 having up to 6 voice actors for each season, and the cast for seasons 5-7 having up to five voice actors; therefore, these actors voice multiple characters, leading to numerous inconsistencies:
    • Aisha/Layla's had different voice actresses in Seasons 2-4, Sofia Tsaka (S2E01-S2E15 and Season 3), Alexandra Lerta (S2E16-17), Chrisoula Papadopoulou (S2E18-S2E26 and S4E01-S4E11) and Aigli Kontonikou (S4E12-S4E25).
      • Chrisoula Papadopoulou would later voiced Layla in Seasons 5-7.
    • Tzini Papadopoulou replaced Chrisoula Papadopoulou's roles in S3E03-S3E26. But, Chrisoula Papadopoulou reprised her roles in Season 4.
      • She also voiced Layla and Lockette in the dub of the first 2 movies.
    • Since Season 3 and 4, Aigli Kontonikou replaced Alexandra Lerta's roles as Stella and Stormy. She also voiced and minor characters such as Miele and Tressa.
    • Ino Stefani and Argiris Pavlidis replaced Sofia Tsaka and Othon Metaxas in Season 4.
  • Chrisoula Papadopoulou reprised her roles of Faragonda, Darcy, and Lockette in the revival seasons, and is the only voice actor to mostly remain in the cast.

Errors[]

  • In season 4, some actors pronounce "Enchantix" differently.
  • In seasons 1-4, up to six actors voiced multiple characters. As a result, some characters like, Aisha, Roxy, Klaus and Gantlos, would have different voices between episodes or the half of the season.
    • This happened frequently in Season 4.
  • In episode 617, Bloom infamously says "Magic Winx, Sirenix" instead of "Magic Winx, Bloomix". This is because the error was also present in the English version of the episode, although it was later fixed in said version.
