The Dubbing Database

Winx Club (also known as El Club Winx in seasons 1-4 and on Netflix) is the Latin American Spanish dub of the show of the same name. It was initially produced by Etcétera Group in Venezuela for seasons 1-7 and the four one-hour specials. Like the Brazilian Portuguese dub, the first four seasons primarily aired on Cartoon Network and Boomerang from April 4, 2005 until June 5, 2010. However, they abandoned season 4 after the first episode. Due to the 2010 acquisition of the Winx Club franchise by Viacom, the dub began airing on Nick's Latin American feed from October 26, 2011 until some time in 2015/16, where the TV specials and seasons 5-7 premiered, alongside reruns of seasons 3-4 with footage altered to match the Atlas Oceanic dub of those seasons.

Discovery Kids would also license the series to air season 7 and was supposed to exclusively air the dub of season 8, with the dub's production switching to DINT Doblajes Internacionales in Chile. However, despite season 8 being fully dubbed, it was never aired on the network for unknown reasons, although it initially appeared on the channel's schedules before being removed. This distribution issue occurred throughout all of Latin America, with the Brazilian Portuguese dub only having its first 10 episodes of season 8 airing on TV, with the rest releasing on Discovery+. Although season 8 was never officially released, S8E1-2, 8, 14, 16, 24 and 26 eventually circulated in 2024 through leaks.

Release[]

In Hispanic America, Cartoon Network premiered season 1 on April 4, 2005, premiering the first 3 seasons until 2007[2][3] and rerunning them until 2010. The first episode of season 4 aired on June 5, 2010, but the channel abandoned the show afterwards and the season was never finished on the channel. Boomerang also re-aired seasons 1-3 starting on April 3, 2006, and never aired season 4.

Nickelodeon premiered the specials from October 26 to December 28, 2011, followed by season 3 from January 7, 2012 until April 1, 2012. Season 4 premiered right afterwards from April 4 to June 1, 2012 on the Argentine feed with an episode airing mainly every other day, and April 7 to July 1, 2012 elsewhere on Saturdays and Sundays, allowing the season to finally air fully in Latin America. They also aired the movie The Secret of the Lost Kingdom on June 13, 2012.

Season 5 premiered from October 6, 2012 to October 26, 2013 (ending on September 25th in Argentina and Mexico), season 6 from May 3 to September 28, 2014, and season 7 from October 3, 2015 to January 3, 2016. Reruns of seasons three to six aired on Nick 2 between 2016 and 2017.

Season 7 aired on Discovery Kids between August 26 and October 17, 2019. Season 8 was supposed to premiere on September 7, 2019 in Argentina and Chile, but never aired, and the channel never gave any statement for this action.

In El Salvador, seasons 3 and 4 aired on Canal 19 with other Nick shows from January 7 to May 31, 2012. However, season 4 was left abandoned because of the rebrand to MegaNoticias 19.

In Mexico, Canal 5 aired seasons 1 and 2 in 2006. Even though they announced a release of season 3, they never aired it, and skipped to season 5 on November 3, 2013. Season 5 was rerun on Azteca 7 starting on July 1, 2019.

In Cuba, Multivisión aired seasons 1 and 2 in 2010 (season 2 premiered on September 20th) through bootlegs without a license. They also aired the European Spanish dub of The Secret of the Lost Kingdom.

In Chile, TVN used to broadcast seasons 1-3 between 2006 and 2016.

In the United States, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. aired the dub through Spanish audio tracks in the mid-late 2010s.

DVD[]

Seasons 1 and 2 were released in Mexico by Videomax and Televisa on DVD in the 2000s, followed by seasons 4 and 5 by Paramount Home Video in the mid-2010s. The Australian DVD releases of season 6 also featured this dub as a Spanish audio track.

Streaming[]

Netflix had the first four seasons available in Latin America from October 2013 until January 2019. Season 5 was added in May 2015, followed by season 6 in April 2020; both seasons were removed in July 2021. In the United States, Netflix later offered seasons 6 and 7 between September 2021 and 2023.

Blim streamed the first season between 2021 and 2022. Additionally, the first seven seasons have been made available on YouTube through the official Winx Club Español channel, alongside the European Spanish dub. The Rainbow-partnered Winx Club América Latina fan channel also released seasons 1-7 as well as some of season 8.

Notes[]

  • Seasons 1-2 and 4-8 are based on the English dubs (Cinélume for S1-2 and 4). Despite this, different elements have been taken from the Italian version[6] and from the different English versions.
    • Season 3's dubbing is based on the original Italian version. Some songs from season 4 are also dubbed based on the Italian version. "Got to Go" from S1E18 also used the same lyrics as the European Spanish version, which was translated from Italian.
    • This has caused some songs to be translated twice, completely changing the lyrics.
    • It has also caused this dub to contain dialogue that doesn't exist in the Italian version, such as in S4E6, where Aisha says "Let the battle begin!" since it is present in English, or be missing dialogue that was muted in the English version.
    • Due to the Mattel doll license, some songs from the 4Kids English dub were dubbed for toy commercials, using Mexican singers, separately from this dub itself.
    • This dub itself is used as a reference in the Balearic Catalan dub, which copies the lyrics of the ending song and the names "el Club Winx" for the titular group and "Encantrix" for the transformation in season 3, given that dubs in that dialect often take influence from dubs in European and Latin American Spanish and the other Catalan dialects.
  • After the fifth season, the scripts were moved from being on physical paper to digital. During the use of a physical script, the directors and cameramen made translation corrections to the script by hand in order to ensure the final product was well-chosen, due to the fact that it was translated with continuity errors and sometimes with very literal translations. This is why subsequent seasons feature more errors.[7]
  • When casting for Bloom, Melanie Henríquez thought she wouldn't get the lead role because so many actresses applied. It was great news for her to find out she'd gotten the role and she felt very grateful to have dubbed her for almost ten years.[8]
  • This is actress Yasmil López's first dubbing role. She initially auditioned just to get into the studio. Etcétera Group, in addition to accepting her, gave her one of the leading roles as Tecna, who she dubbed until her retirement from Venezuelan dubbing, becoming her most recognizable role.[9]
  • All the songs in seasons 1-4 were dubbed, but throughout the revival, the opening theme songs in seasons 5-7 and the TV specials were left in English while other songs were dubbed.
  • Zarathustra and Ediltrude, the Cloud Tower teachers, have a Russian accent in the original version, which was not retained in some scenes from the first season. In the second season, only Zarathrustra was dubbed with a Russian accent, but the following episode, it was replaced with a French accent, and in the third season, no accent was used at all.
  • The dub of season 3 was the last time Carmen Arencibia would voice act, as she passed away in 2007.

Translations[]

  • The transformation phrase "Magic Winx" is mostly untranslated, but in season 5, it was originally going to be "Mágicas Winx" but was changed before broadcast.
  • Both Charmix and Enchantix are called Encantrix.
  • Speedix is Velocidix.
  • Lovix is Amorix.
  • In the Nickelodeon era episodes, Iginio Straffi made the dub's producers change Layla's name to her original version name, Aisha.
    • However, Nick's reruns of seasons 3 and 4 did not redub her name, causing an inconsistency.

Errors[]

Some of these errors also occur in Brasilian Portuguese as well, since it was also produced under Etcétera Group in seasons 1-7.

  • In S1E4 and S6E18, the narrator refers to the Trix in the masculine singular as "el Trix" when it should have been "las Trix".
  • In the official YouTube channel's upload of S1E7, the audio of the English version plays off-sync underneath.
  • Transformation cries are translated very inconsistently early on.
    • In S1E8, Bloom says "Alas mágicas de Bloom" (tr. "Bloom’s magic wings") instead of "Bloom, Magic Winx". This is due to the original English script having Bloom accidentally say "Bloom, Magix Winx".
  • In S2E2, Icy calls Gloomix "Bloomix", years before that transformation debuted in season 6.
  • The Charmix and Enchantix transformations were both renamed to Encantrix. This is due to the verbs "to charm" and "to enchant" both being "encantar" in Spanish. In season 2, this happened due to a lack of foresight when dubbing the season, but it is unknown why Charmix was also called Encantrix in the four one-hour specials, which were produced and released after season 3.
    • When Charmix is mentioned in season 3 and Enchantix is mentioned in seasons 4 and 8, both are referred to by their original names.
    • For the season 2 transformation, "Encantrix" is actually a mistranslation, because the word "charm" refers to the charms the Winx wear on their chests, which are "amuletos" in Spanish.
  • In S2E3, Aisha refers to the pixies as "las duendes" (tr. "the elves"), when their name was never translated outside of this line.
  • In S2E9, Tecna says "Magix Winx" instead of "Magic Winx".
  • In S2E12, Darcy refers to Jared as "la nueva amiga de Musa" (tr. "Musa's new female friend").
  • The title of S2E24 (Prigioniera di Darkar / Darkar's Prisoner) was mistranslated as "El prisionero de Darkar" when it should have been "La prisionera de Darkar" since it refers to Bloom.
  • There are times during Season 3 where a character is supposed to say something, but ends up being missing.
    • Chimera's line "My Spella McCartney!" in S3E1. (some copies have this error, while the official YouTube channel fixes this)
    • Aisha screaming "Enchantix!" in S3E8.
    • Tecna's scream when she falls into the Omega Dimension in S3E13.
    • Helia's line "Him again!" in S3E23.
  • In S3E20, there are several errors:
    • In the original version, Lockette mentions that she "will seal all the doors of the school," but in this dub, María José Estévez says that she "won't allow anyone to pass through the doors of Magix." It should have been "through the doors of Alfea."
    • In this episode, the word "Pixie" was translated as "Hadita" (little fairy). It was the only time that translation was used.
    • In the original version, Stormy tells Darcy that "everything she does is an illusion," while in this dub, Maythe Guedes says, "...you are the fairy of illusions."
    • Digit refers to "Zing" as "Buzzy." This is due to the original English script also having this error.
    • At Alfea, when the crowd celebrates Digit and the pixies, male voices are heard in the dub, when everybody on-screen is a woman.
  • In S3E22, in the original version, Bloom mentions that the water stars were collected by "Musa, Tecna, and Stella," but in the dub, Melanie Henríquez says that the stars were collected by "Musa, Layla, and Stella." This error is similarly present in many other dubs, such as the 4Kids English dub.
  • In S4E3, the acapella for "Open Up Your Heart" is off-sync due to a full acapella being pasted instead of cut properly. Later, the line "Fermi!" is mistranslated as "Vamos!" ("Let's go!") instead of "Stop!" due to the English dub leaving that line untranslated from Italian.
  • In the official YouTube channel's uploads of S4E11, 12 and 14, the theme song is muted.
  • In S4E22, when Bloom says that the Wizards of the Black Circle surrendered, she calls them los Hechiceros Oscuros (the Dark Wizards) instead of their established name, los Hechiceros del Círculo Negro.
  • At around 8:30 in S4E23, Bloom and Roxy’s lines are swapped. This also happens in the Brazilian Portuguese dub.
  • In S4E25, Bloom uses the original name of Speedix when it was established as Velocidix.
  • Some screams in the specials are not dubbed.
    • It's possible that the specials in Latin American Spanish suffered the same issue as the French dub of the specials and season 5, which had issues with reactions and line assignments since they did not have the English or Italian versions to record over.
  • Stella's powerline is translated inconsistently.
    • In specials 1 and 2, and seasons 5 and 8, it is "¡Stella, hada del sol brillante!"
    • In specials 3 and 4, and seasons 6-7, it is "¡Stella, hada del sol radiante!"
  • In season 5, Bloom's "Fire Blade" attack is translated inconsistently: "Hoja de fuego", "Espada de fuego" and "Cuchilla de fuego".
  • In the first special, when Bloom transforms for the first time, the sounds of the Great Dragon roaring are absent.
  • In the fourth special, all the songs are undubbed except for the ending theme, even though they were dubbed in the previous specials. This also happens in the Brazilian Portuguese dub.
  • In S5E1:
    • Daphne says "You've come a long way, Bloom," (referring to her achievements), but in this dub, the line is mistranslated as "You came from very far away, Bloom" (referring to a place).
    • In the final scene in which Tritannus meets the Trix, Stormy says "Tritannus, right?" This line was supposed to be said by Maythe Guedes, but it was said by Leisha Medina instead.
  • In the YouTube upload of S5E5, the song "We Are Believix" is cut. The same occurs for European Spanish.
  • In S5E8, when the Trix appear behind Bloom, Tecna and Musa, Tecna's line "The Trix!" is said by Judith Noguera (Aisha's VA) instead, who is not in the scene.
  • In S5E13:
    • Tritannus mispronounces "mágica" as the Italian word "magica" and orders the monster "cuiden este lugar" with a plural imperative conjugation when there was only one of them.
    • The Selkies are incorrectly referred to as Sirenix Guardians.
    • Bloom calls the Sirenix Box (Caja Sirenix) the Sirenix Book (Libro Sirenix).
    • Nickelodeon, Netflix, and DVD releases used an unfinished version with the Sirenix song vocals missing. This was fixed on YouTube and other TV channels like Canal 5 Mexico, but the fixed version has a double instrumental.
  • In S5E18, Musa's spell "Percussive Hit" is mistranslated as "golpe de persecución" (tr. chase hit).
  • In S5E19, Flora's line "that fool" is said by María José Estévez (Musa) instead, since her face was not shown on-screen.
  • In S5E22, Darcy calls Politea "Polinea" near the end of the episode.
  • In S5E26, there are only two Andros guardians but they refer to each other in plural, saying "Miren!" and "Mantengan su posición!".
  • In S6E1, Flora's spell is "Flowers of Sirenix" instead of just "Flower of Sirenix".
  • In S6E2:
    • Stella's line "You're looking at the start of something mega big" is mistranslated as "You're looking at the star of something mega big."
    • Melanie Henríquez's voice cracks when she says Sirenix.
    • The narrator says Alfea instead of Lynphea.
  • In S6E3, 4 and 17, the narrator says "Palladium" (the name of a teacher at Alfea) instead of "Paladins".
  • In S6E4, Jesús Hernández (Sky) mispronounces Thoren's name as "Thorin".
  • In the narration in S6E10, Lu-Wei is referred to with a plural conjugation once: "...Lu-Wei conocía a Eldora, aunque no sabían dónde estaba ella, si les mostró a las Winx su flor preferida..."
  • From S6E7 onwards, Selina starts pronouncing Acheron in the Italian way when the English way is the one established in this dub.
  • The word "dumplings" was mistranslated as the Hispanic food "buñuelos" in S6E9, when the previous episode correctly called them "panecillos".
  • In S6E17, Bloom says "Magic Winx, Sirenix" instead of "Magic Winx, Bloomix", like the English version. This was fixed in later airings like the English version. This and Polish are the only dubs to correct the mistake, excluding the ones who didn't make it in the first place.
  • In S6E20, Tecna refers to the Pixies as "Trixies".
  • In some copies of S6E21, the Mythix acapella is abruptly cut off by an ad break fade-out and fade-in, and the final syllable can be heard at the start of the next part of the episode. This also happens in the Brazilian Portuguese dub.
  • In S6E23, "witch" is translated as "bruja" when the established term in the dub is "hechicera".
  • In season 7, Pyros uses the English pronunciation instead of the Italian pronunciation established in season 3, since the former season was dubbed from English and the latter from Italian.
  • In season 7, Zenith is mispronounced as "Dzines".
  • S7E1 features a mastering error where the preview for S7E2 is missing its borders. This also happens in the Brazilian Portuguese dub.
  • In season 7, Elena Díaz Toledo still uses her adult voice for young Griselda.
  • In the recap of S7E6, the narrator mispronounces Squonk as "Shonk".
